EC 1 Commuter E-Bike

So, I'm 60 and dealing with arthritis. Wasn't sure how I'd get on with an e-bike, but this EC-1's a real treat. Battery's lasting well - I do my weekly shop and a bit of a wander around town, still got juice left. Handy, that.

The hills 'round here in Ireland can be tough, but the EC-1's a champ. Got 3 settings for power assist, starts gentle and goes up strong. Eases up the strain on my knees, especially going uphill.

Now, it's a light bike, easy to handle, which I'm thankful for. And it looks right smart too – sleek, no messy welds, cables all tucked away nice and neat. Been stopped a few times by folks asking about it.

Been using it a good few weeks. Solid and reliable, it is. Makes getting out and about more of a joy, really. Should've gotten one of these years ago, I reckon.

Very happy so far with my purchase. Best looking bike in this price range, and it rides very well.
Easy to assemble, despite one missing bolt for the seat, but customer services were very responsive and sorted issues promptly, which is also reassuring for the future if other help needed.

I am a retired engineer and cycle every week. However the lung busting climbs that I and my group had done over the years are now getting harder. So to allow me to keep up I decided to go for an e-bike.
I did a lot of research before buying my first e-bike. The Heybike EC1 seemed to tick most of the boxes, pretty good spec, looked good and was value for money. The communication was good and the bike (medium size) came well packed in a purpose built box. So the bike had no damage, which was good. The assembly instructions in the manual and tools provided were good. It took me about two hours to build in my kitchen as it was -5c in my garage!
As mentioned in some of the user comments I removed the front light to make it easier to fit the handlebars. Also I found it easier to fit the bottom screws of the rear rack first then bend the metal upper stays in place. I charged the battery for about an hour and then set off on my first test ride. The EC1 is about 5kgs heavier than my previous Giant escape however selecting pedal assistance level 1 made the peddling effort about the same. However I felt that there was rubbing of the wheels/brakes. So after a couple of kilometres I returned and put the EC1 up on my bike repair stand. After investigation I found that the front brake was "binding". I removed the wheel and replaced it ensuring that it was properly seated on the forks. However the brake was still binding. So I loosened the brake calliper, moved it slightly and rotated the wheel which spun freely. I operated the brake a number of times and the wheel rotated OK. The rear brake was also binding slightly so I repeated the process and the rear wheel also spun freely.
The second test ride seemed to go better and I used PAS level 2 on a moderate hill and I could feel the assistance, so obviously the hub motor kicked in and was providing power.
One minor issue was that when doing a slow freewheel U turn at the top of a road the motor kicked in and I had to brake to avoid speeding up! I will look out for this on my next ride.
I had a minor query regarding how to get the display to show miles instead of kilometres. The helpdesk advised me to load the Heybike app and connect to the display via Bluetooth. I did that and changed the display to miles.
The riding position and comfort of the medium size seem fine for me (5ft 7").
Whilst the lights are no doubt great for dark commuting, most of us use flashing lights to ensure we are safe during the day. So maybe Heybike could consider a design change for future bikes to allow the lights to flash for daytime rides. (If they currently have this capability let me know how to set it up).
Overall it is a very good bike, however I have given the bike four stars due to the unexpected power surge during the freewheel turn.
I am looking forward to many trouble free rides on my new EC1.

Bought a pair of EC-1 bikes as a bundle the bikes arrived well packed and we're easy to assemble. Sadly once the bikes were built we had a few issues with a screen and control buttons; a quick message to customer services and Jane organised a replacement and now the bikes are brilliant!

I was hesitant at first, but the EC1 exceeded my expectations. It offers great value for the price. The Shimano 7-speed gears make it perfect for navigating both flat and hilly roads. It’s also lightweight and easy to store.
